Update
Thursday 15th March 2012 was a busy day for the 12 of us
participating in the BBC school report. Our task was to create a
news report that would go out live at 2pm and be put on the BBC
school report website as well as our own. After an editorial
meeting it was decided that we would report on the role reversal of
the Head and Deputy Head teachers. We also wanted to include a
report on the recent music festival and of cause the days weather.
However before we could begin, we had to write and learn our
scripts. Once we were sure they were professional we started to
rehearse them, which helped us visualise how the real presentation
would be.
We genuinely all had good fun filming, presenting and editing
the report. It was wonderful to get this opportunity to do
something totally different. We have used various skills though out
the day to become successful reporters . Although sometimes we
found it hard to get things right first time!

BBC School Report News Day
Project
St Mary's is registered to
participate in a national project being organised by the BBC. BBC
Journalists have been working with St Mary's staff and students to
learn how journalists report on day to day events and prepare
programmes for broadcast.
The BBC Project is a national
competition that culminates in a day of live reporting,
filming and editing on Thursday 15th March. Students will need
to submit their completed pieces of film by an early afternoon
deadline after which the films will be judged.
St Mary's students have been
working hard under the supervision of Mrs Rowe to practise their
skills and gain experience of reporting and film production. Some
examples of their work have already been published. They can be
viewed by clicking on the links below.
Out
and About with Royal Reporters
The recent Royal Opening was a
fantastic day for all at St Mary's. However for 13 aspiring
journalists the day was made even more special as they became BBC
school news reporters for the day.
In preparation for the School
Report News Day students spent the day of the Royal opening
preparing a news report, interviewing VIPs, filming for the opening
ceremony and taking part in a conference call with a BBC editor.
Some examples of their work can be seen below:
